Genius Lyric Ban: Explained | Genius News

Last week, as you may have noticed, we blacked out, or banned, the lyrics of more than 18K songs across the Genius website. These included major hits by the likes of JAY-Z, Eminem, Beyoncé, and Kendrick Lamar. Why would we do such a thing? Because of Michael Jordan. In the video above, Genius News host Tamara Dhia explains the ban and connects the dots back to 1984, when Jordan and Nike defied the NBA’s dress code and forever changed the face of popular culture.
